Parent Volunteers

At Carden Academy we actively encourage parents to be involved in the lives of their students at school.  There are many ways parents can participate, whether it is daily, weekly, monthly, or only for specific events.  Even the smallest amount of time makes a significant difference!  Students are thrilled when their families become involved in their daily experience. Please contact Friends of Carden or the office to volunteer for any of the following programs:

  • Hot Lunch Distribution - help log and distribute hot lunch selections to the students who have pre-purchased online.  This event occurs daily.  You can sign up for specific days or a regularly weekly schedule.  In exchange for your time, you receive credits towards hot lunch purchases for your student.

  • Picture Day - help facilitate rotating the classes through the photo studio area on campus.  This event occurs twice a year in the Fall and Spring.  In exchange for your time, you receive credit towards picture purchases for your student.

  • Library Book Fairs in October and May - help with set-up at the start of the week, tear-down at the end of the week, as well as help ring up sales on selected extended-hour days between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

  • Fall Family Fun Festival in October - Help run the game booths, supervise the inflatables area, oversee the ticket redemption table, and assist in general set-up and tear-down. This school-wide fun event is sponsored by Friends of Carden and takes place after school.
  • Open Houses and Admissions Events - represent the parent perspective when speaking with prospective Carden families, contribute baked goods and refreshments, organize and distribute admissions materials.  This event occurs multiple times throughout the year on the weekend, both on and off campus.

  • French Week in November.

  • Cookie Dough Order Fulfillment  - on pick-up day, match and bundle cookie dough boxes with pre-orders, distribute bundles to families as they arrive to pick-up after school.

  • Holiday Program in December - help with simple set construction, basic sewing for costumes, create and collate programs, generate publicity for ticket sales.

  • Science Fair in March

  • Art Show in April - help with framing and display set-up of student artwork, contributing refreshments for the reception event, reception set-up/clean-up, display tear-down at the end of the week.

  • Annual Crab & Pasta Feed and Silent Auction - our largest fundraising event, hosted by Friends of Carden, needs help with food prep, auction prizes, marketing materials, and reception hall set-up/clean-up.

  • 8th Grade Play in May - help with simple set construction, basic sewing for costumes, create and collate programs, work on publicity for ticket sales.

Student Mentoring

Building the sense of community is encouraged amongst the students. Kindergarteners are assigned 4th Grade Buddies, who then visit the youngsters during scheduled class time to assist their buddy with their art projects. Kindergarteners are also assigned 8th Grade Reading Buddies, who come in to the classroom throughout the year to read books chosen by the youngsters at a one-on-one level. 2nd Graders are assigned 6th Grade Reading Buddies, who also combine their end-of-year classroom party celebrations.

Room Parents

Each classroom teacher requests specific assistance from a Room Parent volunteer, who then helps to spearhead communication and organize classroom events with other parents in the class.  This includes coordinating field trip drivers (if needed) and ensuring each trip has the necessary number of trip chaperones.  Other duties include planning food and favor donations and coordinating servers for themed or holiday parties in the classroom.  Your teacher would really appreciate your help!  Please contact your child's teacher to volunteer.

Seventh Grade Parents

Each year we request that the parents of the seventh grade class help to plan and host the Eighth Grade Graduation Reception, a joyous event which follows the official graduation ceremony for our departing class on the last day of school.  Duties includes coordinating food and supplies, as well as reception hall decoration and clean-up.

Fundraising

Fundraising plays a critical role in helping the school provide a robust environment that ensures an optimal learning experience for your student.  There are ongoing programs as well as annual events that need your skills, time, and energy!

  • eSCRIP - participating business partners contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty card, credit card, and/or debit card purchases to our school.  Sign up at www.escrip.com, group name Carden Academy, group id#155540985.

  • Boxtops For Education - submit labels from participating grocery products to the office for monetary contributions to the school.

  • Campbell's Labels for Education - submit qualifying labels from Campbell's grocery products to the office for monetary contributions to the school.
