Lessons 1 – 4 are taught this year. In these lessons, the children learn vowel sounds individually and combined such as au, eau. The children learn grammar such as le, la, l’, les, article, numbers, gender in nouns and the difference between masculine and feminine words. They can answer simple questions and learn how to make nouns plural. Learning is oral and written. Students have homework on Mondays and Wednesdays. The year begins with the alphabet and ends with the days, months, seasons, weather, and counting 1-50. Students use a notebook for grammar, homework, and dictations. |
Art: In the second grade students are introduced to many different master artists, such as Vincent Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo,
and Georgia O’Keefe. With each artist, we learn a new technique and gain different perspective. Assignments are geared
toward interpretation and imagination.
Physical Education: Improving Manipulative Skills: Here students will refine and improve the following movement patterns:
kicking, punting, dribbling with the feet (soccer dribble), overhand throwing, catching, and dribbling with hands (basketball
dribble), and striking with a bat.
Dance: Students will perform social and creative dances. Rhythm Movements: Students will perform various tasks to music with rhythm sticks. Participate
in class activities and demonstrate knowledge of rules Demonstrate Good Sportsmanship Demonstrate full range of abilities expected for age Computer: Students will begin to learn the touch method of keyboarding using Read, Write and Type.
Students will begin to learn Basic Procedures in Microsoft Word. How to start Microsoft Word Students will create original artwork on the computer using Kid Pix.How to create a document How to save a document Word wrap How to correct errors Students will write short stories in Microsoft Word using correct punctuation. Children will learn about the usefulness of the Internet. They will learn that before sharing private information in cyberspace, they must get permission from a parent or a teacher. Children will learn about computer programming by learning simple commands in MSW Logo. Visiting the Web site www.cybersmart.com, children will learn that many Web sites have enticing offers in exchange for information and will discuss how to responsibly handle such offers.
